This course is designed for ILYA member club coaches at all levels of experience. The course will feature an educational, classroom, discipline component in the AM and an Optimist Dinghy instructional course in the PM. ILYA coaches met at the conclusion of 2021 and asked for assistance in classroom management and techniques to keep students engaged while learning on land. Mark Maas, Whitewater Unified School District will speak on classroom management along with teaching or coaching sports. Maas has an impressive record as a track coach and as an educator. He has served as the Dean of Students in the Whitewater district. His track teams churned out 15 consecutive Southern Lakes Conference championships and two WIAA State titles in girls’ competition and another 13 conference titles and five top-five State finishes in boys’ competition. His resume also features State champs in 17 individual and relay events. He is highly respected by his student athletes, the parents and by the WI education community. Marek Valasek will speak on Optimist Dinghy techniques and rigging. Marek was an Olympian and currently serves as the Director of the Geneva Lake Sailing School and the Buddy Melges Sailing Team. He is the "go-to" person for all things Opti in the Midwest. The ILYA is fortunate to welcome both these gentlemen to the coaches clinic.
This course is scheduled early June to allow all your coaches to come to learn together and develop improved instructional skills as they instruct our future scow sailors.
