This one-day course is sponsored by the ILYA Foundation as part of the ongoing work of the Safety and Education Committee.

May 1 – Sailing Counselor Course (Pewaukee) – for first or second year instructors, those not US Sailing Level 1 certified, those who are often hired to teach beginner classes or Junior Instructors, ages 13-15 years with a current Boating License. Anticipated attendance 25. Instructors – Emlie Barkow Veinot and Jeff Baker.

9:00-9:30: Welcome, Introductions and Ice Breakers

9:30-10:30 Basics of Teaching/How to Teach Module (Booklet)

10:30-10:45 BREAK

10:45-11:45 Safety & Risk Management (Booklet)

11:45-12:15 LUNCH

12:15- 1:15 Powerboating: How to Assist on Board a Powerboat (Hands-On)

1:15-2:00 Leadership On and Off the Water (Hands-On)

2:00-2:15 BREAK

2:15-3:00 Teaching While in a Sailboat with Students (Discussion)

3:00-3:30 US Sailing & ILYA Resources for Further Education (Discussion)

3:30-4:00 Debrief the Day, Additional Conversations, Questions

4:00 End Of Course

 

Course cost is $40 which will cover lunch and snacks throughout the day. Contact Candace Porter for registration or meal options; Emlie Veinot for course specifications.
