Geneva Lake Sailing School Dinghyfest: A Thrilling Week of Sailing at Lake Geneva
The Geneva Lake Sailing School hosted an exciting regatta on Lake Geneva this past week, though not without its challenges. The X Boat portion of Dinghyfest, which spanned two days, was unfortunately marked by varied wind conditions, but still found an opportunity for friendly competition, and intense racing action.
Monday X Boats Day 1: Calm Waters and Competitive Volleyball
The regatta kicked off on Monday, but the anticipated winds never arrived. With no breeze to speak of, the races had to be postponed. However, that didn’t dampen the competitive spirit of the participants. Instead of sailing, the lakes engaged in a spirited volleyball match which culminated in a finals between LGYC and the Pewaukee Yacht Club (PYC). The match was a highlight of the day, and has both teams looking forward to a rematch at Minnetonka after LGYC's triumph. It definitely helped to keep the energy high for the next day’s racing.
Tuesday X Boats Day 2: A Breeze of Hope and Thrilling Races
Tuesday brought better conditions, with a medium breeze finally filling the sails and allowing the regatta to get started. The competitors were eager to get racing, and three exciting races were completed in quick succession.
At the end of the day, Carson Boemer and Catherine Boemer, sailing A-7, claimed victory with an impressive performance that earned them first place. Oliver Gray and Milena Phillips on I-85 took second, while Nick and Aden Berkowitz sailing V-74 finished in third place. Not far behind, Colton Hibbard and Tommy Heine on I-54 secured fourth, and rounding out the top five were Tilly Nieman and Emery Otzenon I-86.
The competition was fierce, with only five points separating first and fifth place, showcasing the high level of talent and the narrow margins that made this regatta a tight one.

Wednesday Optis Day 1 Melges 14 Day 1
The Optis were next up last Wednesday and Thursday, drawing a RWB fleet of 56 talented competitors and 30 Green Fleeters.
Wednesday began with virtually no wind, delaying the start of the competition. However, by the afternoon, a light breeze finally filled the sails, and the Race Committee managed to get two races in. Although the conditions were challenging, the sailors made the most of the opportunity.
Red, White, and Blue Fleets: Close Battles at the Top
The regatta’s main fleet competition—featuring the Red, White, and Blue Fleets—was close. The top finishers were as follows:
Mathias Urban from Lake Geneva Yacht Club (LGYC) dominated the competition, finishing first overall with an impressive 3 points, while also claiming victory in the Blue Fleet.
George Lillwitz from Lake Beulah sailed into second place overall with 5 points, securing the top spot in the Red Fleet.
George Geye from Lake Geneva took third place with 8 points.
Greg Gale from Pine Lake finished in fourth place with 11 points.
Levi Braeger from Cedar Lake rounded out the top five with 13 points.
Meanwhile on the Green Fleet course, 30 competitors battled it out for the top positions. In a strong showing from Chicago Yacht Club, the first two places were claimed by their sailors:
Miles Chen from Chicago Yacht Club took the top spot with 10 points after 6 races.
Persephone Hooper, also from Chicago Yacht Club, secured second place with 12 points.
The rest of the top five in the Green Fleet were as follows:
Foster Veinot from Pewaukee Yacht Club finished third with 19 points.
Reese Allen, also from Chicago, took fourth place with 21 points.
Ingrid Farrell from Lake Beulah finished fifth with 31 points.
In the Melges 14 Fleet there was only one race which was captured by Lukas Valasek.
Thursday Optis Day 2
Unfortunately, Thursday's racing was canceled due to a complete lack of wind, which left the results from Wednesday's races as the final standings for the regatta.

Friday Melges 15
Unfortunately, the wind conditions were once again scarce, limiting the Race Committee to only two races.
Sophie Niemann and Tilly Niemann, sailing for Lake Geneva Yacht Club (LGYC), took control of the regatta with an impressive performance, finishing in first place with a total of 3 points.
Not far behind, Owen Kohut and Bo Strothman from Lake Geneva secured second place with 5 points. The competition remained close throughout the regatta, and in third place, Oliver Gray and Adler Johnston, also from Lake Geneva, finished with 8 points, rounding out the top three.
